Local experience in Tra Que - the village of herbs:

With your bike, you will cross the rural landscape of Hoi An to reach Tra Que, the village known for its aromatic herbs .

Tra QueYou will join local farmers and observe how they plant and harvest vegetables every day. They will warmly welcome you with a local non-alcoholic cocktail then you will enjoy a foot bath and massage before taking part in a banhxeo cooking demonstration.

Lunch will then bring together village specialties including tam huu (small pork and shrimp skewers), different varieties of shrimp, pork with herbs, etc.

Introduction to different ways of fishing:

At dawn, you will get on your bikes for a ride in the Cam Thanh countryside towards Thuan Tinh quay. You will then board a boat to arrive at the seaport of Cua Dai, at the mouth of the Thu Bon River which crosses Hoi An where two activities will await you.

First of all, you will be introduced to fishing using large nets which are accessed in “basket boats”.

After this first discovery, you will head to the mangrove forest still aboard your basket boat and continue for 45 to 30 minutes to arrive at the crab fishing site, in which you can attend and participate. You can also try to maneuver your boat, but be careful, this will not be an easy task since you will have to try to row in a circular manner while maintaining your balance!

As a reward: you will visit a local house where you can enjoy a lunch of local dishes carefully prepared by the fishermen.

 

Duration: 5 hours with lunch

Transport by boat: 30-45 minutes to Cua Dai port

Option 1: Hoi An city tour

Hoi An marketIn the morning, you will visit Hoi An Old Town , a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will stroll through the narrow streets lined with old houses and you will also be able to observe the locals bargaining at the market. You will visit the famous Japanese Bridge, the Chinese temple and the Tan Ky trading house and discover the Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese and French architectures which blend harmoniously in this fascinating city.

Duration: maximum 2h30 min 

During your visit to Hoi An, you will stop at the “ Reaching Out Teahouse ”. This superb tea house employs deaf and mute people and the income generated is reused by the company to train and employ people with disabilities throughout Vietnam. You will be immersed in a calm environment where you can enjoy your cup of tea, taste many different teas and coffees and enjoy the enchanting setting of the establishment.

Return to your accommodation.

 
Option 2: discovery of Hoi An street food

Banh Bao VietnamAs you walk along the bustling streets and enter tiny alleys you will discover a wide variety of Hoi An specialties starting with the classic White Rose dumplings, a very popular dish made with translucent dough filled with shrimp or pork.

You will then stop at an old house in typical Vietnamese style where you will be warmly welcomed before you taste a Hoi An green bean cake with a cup of tea. After that, you will head to a Cao Lau stand where you will taste this dish made from pork and vegetables placed on a bed of rice noodles soaked in a particular broth.

You will continue your culinary tour by making a detour to a Banh My stand where you can taste this world-famous Vietnamese sandwich. To make sure you don't leave hungry, you'll also eat a wonton on the way to the ancient Ba Le well before ending your tour at a local cafe for a Vietnamese coffee.

Duration: between 3 hours and 3h 30min

Option 3: Practical cooking class in Hoi An

The chef, who will also be your teacher for the day, will first take you to the local market where you can haggle with local vendors and learn about all the ingredients you will use during the cooking class.

You will then continue to Tra Que village and can walk through the gardens where farmers grow herbs using traditional organic methods. The chef of the family will give you a short lesson on Vietnamese cuisine and medicine before picking fresh herbs to cook later.

Tra Que Cooking ClassBy working with the chef you will learn the traditional techniques used to prepare and cook Vietnamese dishes directly with locals. When everything is hot and ready, you can sit down at the table and enjoy the fabulous dish that you cooked yourself!

Hours: 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

 
Option 4: bike ride in the Duy Vinh countryside

In the morning, you will take a bike to cross the Cam Kim bridge and ride to a small village. After visiting an old house and observing its immense family tree, you will continue cycling through the Vietnamese countryside with its rice fields, cornfields, sedges and bamboos. During a stop, you will have the chance to meet a local family and learn about weaving techniques using sedge.

You will continue your exploration by pedaling on small country roads. You will then stop to enjoy lunch at a local house, then board a boat back to Hoi An.

The driver will then take you back to your hotel.

Option 5: Jeep Tour to My Son Sanctuary

My Son Sanctuary - Hoi AnYou will board a Jeep and head towards the temples of My Son. On the way, you will take several roads that are difficult to access for other tourist vehicles. You will have the opportunity to observe the life of the local population, including farmers working in the rice fields, fishermen returning from work or street vendors on their bicycles. You will take a break in a café before continuing your journey and arriving at the My Son sanctuary.

During this visit you will learn more about this place and understand the importance of My Son. This site was the cultural and religious center of this ancient kingdom for many centuries and is still home to temples built in the 4th century. Partially in ruins, My Son still has many temples and sanctuaries with fine decorations of high quality and is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

On the way back, take a short boat ride from Thanh Ha pottery village to Cua Dai seaport with massage service and lunch on board the boat.

Imperial Citadel HueIn the afternoon you will visit the Imperial Citadel , remarkable for its fortress appearance entrenched in the heart of the city, then stroll through the Dong Ba market, located on the banks of the Perfume River.

Discovery of Hue street food by cyclo . You will first stop in a small street where there is an authentic local restaurant where you can taste elaborate rice cakes such as Banh Beo, Banh Nam or Banh Ram It or even Banh Khoai.

You will end your culinary tour in style in a café located on the bank and which offers a beautiful view of the Perfume River.

Duration: 3h 30min to 4 hours

Day 2: Hue – Hoi An

BreakfastThien Mu Hue Pagoda In the morning you will visit the Thien Mu Pagoda (which means “Heavenly Lady”), located 3 kilometers from the Imperial Citadel.

You will then board a typical boat of the region to reach the pier in the village of Thuy Bieu (10 minutes journey). Then begin a bike ride to discover the old houses of the village, and its garden houses, typical of the city of Hue.

You will take a break during a stopover with a local, who will make you taste local tea as well as fruits from his garden.

Emperor Tu Duc HueYou will then visit the tomb of Emperor Tu Duc , one of the most beautiful sites in Hue. Altars, pavilions, theaters and temples are brought together in what is called the worship area. The tour will take you through the cobblestone paths along the lake to the emperor's tomb, its enclosure, the main courtyard and the tomb stele pavilion.

Then return to Hoi An
